This illustration was created for a fairytale and fables zine. I decided on the fable, The Fox and The Raven because I wanted to try painting a humanoid bird.
Below are my thumbnails for different compositions and colour roughs for this illustration.
In retrospect, I think composition 7 or 8 would've been a better choice because I don't think the diagonal split was the best choice to try to communicate that they are facing each other and also far apart from each other. I think I got hung up on trying to show as much of the character designs as I could to which was to my detriment.
Furthermore, though I like the top left and bottom right colour roughs quite a bit I think the one I ended up going with best conveyed the light playful atmosphere that I was aiming for.
